Almost, no it is bittersweet.

Goodpasture's men played a great game, no doubt. DCA did as well. I was able to see a few of my friends from Goodpasture at the game and even saw Gil and Janet from a distance (he really is not looking very well and it was worse tonight in the 3rd quarter). Not real sure why he spent a lot of the game at the corner of the field near DCA's sidelines however. Maybe he is keeping his options open for future employment.

As an alumnus and having a son who played football for Goodpasture (notice I did not say for Martin), I was divided on how I would like to see the game played out tonight.

I am pleased because both teams played very hard, there were no huge mistakes by either team, there was minimal misconduct on the field, I could hear Martin screaming across the field, and no one got hurt. It was a tense game throughout. The Goodpasture band sounded very good too!

But, as a parent who was essentially told by Gilbert Drake to move my daughter or else, I was glad for her and her classmates to see DCA win with maturity. No reservations. No excuses. Just glad to see the DCA men play hard and earn the win.

One other comment.

I am not sure who it was on the Goodpasture sidelines who thought it was a good idea to put up the scores from 2005 and 2006 where Goodpasture beat DCA and ran the score up (typical Martin football) and another extremely large poster to make fun of the fact that the lights on the field malfunctioned a few years ago but, frankly, you look a little foolish. Perhaps you would not do that again - but I doubt it. I would have hoped that some other parents, perhaps some players, maybe even Martin would say take it down (even Martin would realize that such taunting could harden the resolve of an opponent). I had no such expectation of decorum from Drake or Judd.

Revenge is sweet! Way to go Cougars!

And our band was way better too.

Fyi I am talking about the game this past Fri. Cougars win! I realize that the dates were confusing since it is almost exactly 1 year since the two teams last met. Goodpasture owned the whole 2nd half. Anyone know how the band did Sat.?

No doubt, Goodpasture Cougars played a good game. Maybe some saw it as revenge but from the sidelines it was a good game. Each of the teams looked relatively young. It will be interesting to watch them over the next few years particularly with Goodpasture and DCA moving to separate divisions.

I know that post was almost 2 years ago, but my goodness John! Do you want Goodpasture to let the other teams stay in the game til the very end? I remember watching that game and DCA was just terrible! If Martin wanted to score 100 that night he could have, but he didn't. You are pathetic, and as much as you hate to say it now, your son played for Martin, and will be grateful one day when you see the life lessons he not only taught your son, but the rest of the team.

What my son learned and did not learn from David Martin are for him to determine. What I do know is we have had the benefit of comparing Goodpasture with another school, as several others have done who have pulled out over the last few years, and its clear to me and others that there are excellent alternatives. You still have to ask with all of Goodpasture's perceived successes athletically and the fact that it has one of the lowest tuition rates in this geographic zone, why are there 200+ empty seats? Having had experience with another school, I have my own opinions and it relates to matters concerning the way the school has operated for many years and the reputation that the school has earned outside of the new Drake fence.

That said, I am still an alumni and remain involved with many at and concerning Goodpasture in ways known only to a few.
